Androstandiol-glucuronide 3a-diol
Blood test Androstandiol-glucuronide from serum
Androstandiol is a metabolite of DHT. By measuring this, we can see if there is something wrong in the conversion of DHT to 3a-diol when DHT is elevated.
Assessment androstandiol glucuronide is a metabolite of peripheral androgen metabolism (testosterone, dihydrotestosterone). The gluronide form is particularly important for diagnosis in patients with idiopathic hirsutism. Hirsutism, defined as excessive growth of terminal hairs according to a male hair pattern, is common in women and is usually a manifestation of hyperandrogenism in polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). In addition, idiopathic hirsutism occurs frequently. A small minority of patients have severe adrenal or ovarian abnormalities.
Studies have shown that testosterone, androstenedione, and dihydrostestosterone may still be within the normal range for patients with hirsutism, while levels of androstandiol glucuronide are elevated. Finally, with the determination of androstanediolglucuronide, a very good therapy regimen of hirsutism can be made. If the therapy is successful, a decrease in the measured values is observed. Moreover, women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCO) had increased levels of androstanediol glucuronide.
