Beta-2-glycoprotein-I antibodies (IgM)
Blood test Beta-2 Glycoprotein IgM from serum.
Beta-2-glycoprotein IgM is an antibody involved in antiphospholipid syndrome. APS is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system mistakenly produces antibodies that target certain phospholipids in the body. This can lead to the formation of blood clots in blood vessels, which can lead to serious health problems such as strokes, heart attacks, miscarriages and other complications.
When is this test done: when antiphospholipid syndrome is suspected; investigation of thrombophilia; autoimmune diseases (systemic lupus erythematosus); investigation of recurrent miscarriages; thrombocytopenia of unknown cause.
Beta-2-glycoprotein I (IgM) antibodies are part of the diagnostic criteria for antiphospholipid syndrome. They have higher specificity but lower sensitivity than cardiolipin antibodies. Their detection is associated with the occurrence of arterial and venous thromboses, as well as habitual miscarriages.
repeated miscarriages refer to the repeated loss of a pregnancy in the early stages, usually before the 20th week of pregnancy. The medical definition of habitual miscarriage means that a woman has had three or more consecutive miscarriages
A positive result should be confirmed according to the antiphospholipid syndrome classification criteria by a repeat test after at least 12 weeks.
The Beta-2-GP IgM test is performed to measure the presence and level of IgM antibodies to Beta-2 glycoprotein in the patient's blood. An elevated level of these antibodies may be an indication of APS or other autoimmune diseases. It is important to note that this test is usually performed in conjunction with other tests, such as the Beta-2-GP IgG test and lupus tests, to get a more complete picture of the patient's immunologic status.
Only a qualified health care provider can decide what tests are necessary based on the patient's symptoms and their medical history. If you are concerned about possible autoimmune diseases or other health problems, it is advisable to contact a physician for a thorough evaluation and advice on appropriate tests and treatments.
