Hormones
More and more is being written about hormones. This is because the effect of hormones on the human body is being mapped out in increasing detail. We now know that hormones affect just about every bodily process. They regulate your sense of hunger, fat storage, energy management, physical development and even your emotional state.
Several hormone tests can be performed at Blood Values Test, including:
- Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH): This test measures TSH levels to assess thyroid function. Abnormalities can indicate hyperthyroidism (too many thyroid hormones) or hypothyroidism (too few thyroid hormones).
- Free and total testosterone: Testosterone is the main male sex hormone. Testing can help diagnose hormonal imbalances, such as low testosterone levels in men.
- Estradiol: This test measures estradiol levels and is useful in evaluating reproductive health, menopause and hormone therapy.
- Progesterone: Measuring progesterone is relevant to fertility and monitoring the menstrual cycle.
- Cortisol: Cortisol is involved in responding to stress and regulating metabolism. It can be tested for suspected conditions such as Cushing's disease or adrenal insufficiency.
- Insulin: Insulin is involved in the regulation of blood sugar levels and can be tested to assess diabetes or insulin resistance.
- Prolactin: Elevated prolactin levels may indicate problems with the pituitary gland or breastfeeding problems.
- Hormone panels: These tests measure a range of hormones such as FSH, LH, and more to assess reproductive health and hormonal balance.
