Electrolytes
In nutrition, the term Electrolytes refers to essential minerals found in blood, sweat and urine. When these minerals are dissolved in a liquid they form electrolytes - positive or negative ions that are used in metabolic processes. The electrolytes found in your body and measured in this test are:
- Sodium
- Potassium*
- Chloride
- Calcium
- Magnesium (serum)
- Phosphate (inorganic)
- without: Bicarbonate (HC03): this test has been removed from this package as of March 2024 because it is considered not reliable and relevant in the Netherlands.
- Albumin**
*Potassium is very sensitive to shipment and is quickly rejected, you will receive, if this test fails, a 3 euro refund.
**In order to do a reliable calcium calculation/correction is
albumin included in this study: click here for calcium correction calculation
The electricity of these ions is important to keep your nerve and muscle function working. In addition to being important for your nerve and muscle function and the fluid balance in your body, electrolytes are also important for the acidity of your blood and counteracting muscle cramps.
