HPV (human papillomavirus) PCR test
Cobas SWAB PCR test.
An HPV PCR test measures the presence of human papillomavirus (HPV) genetic material (DNA) in a sample.
- The test detects the presence of HPV DNA in the sample, indicating active infection with the virus.
- A sample for an HPV PCR test is obtained by taking a smear from the cervix.
- The PCR technique is highly sensitive and accurate, allowing detection of even small amounts of viral DNA.
Results:
- A positive result for a high-risk HPV type may lead to further investigation by a physician or specialist.
- A negative result means that no detectable amount of the virus is present at the time of testing.
