Nicotine from urine
Nicotine metabolites (cotinine) from urine.
The determination is performed to monitor smoking cessation.
Smoking can affect the prognosis of certain diseases or the success of treatment. Cotinine is a metabolite of nicotine and can therefore be related to nicotine exposure. The determination of cotinine is done in serum or urine.
When interpreting the analysis results of cotinine, possible exposure due to passive smoking is taken into account. Cotinine is detectable on average up to 1 to 3 days after the last cigarette.
