Vitamin D3 25 OH and 1.25 active
This study compiled by Practice Wilkins consists of the 2 types of vitamin D3 measurements from serum:
The immune system activates vitamin d, therefore it makes sense to also measure 1.25 OH vitamin D3 in autoimmune diseases. In disease, it is therefore important not to measure only 25(OH) because a deficiency in it can be the result of the active immune system.
There is actually no deficit if the 1.25(OH)2 is increased. If one would then supplement with vitamins, there is even the possibility of provoking a cytokine storm.
