Estron (E1) Oestron
For some hormone treatments, doctors ask if you want Estron determined.
Estrone, or estrone, is a weak female hormone with the gross formula C18H22O2.
Estrone is the least common estrogen. The body can convert estrone to estrone sulfate, which has a long life. This estrone sulfate can then be converted by the body to estradiol
.
Oestron has an impact on the immune system. The body makes this from androstenedione. Oestrone is weaker in action than estradiol. After menopause, proportionally more oestrone occurs.
Method RIA
Reference range men: 10 - 80 pg/ml, so if the result is higher than 80 ng/l there is an elevation.
In men, administration of androstenedione causes elevated Estron E1 values.
Reference range women:
- Follicular phase: 50 - 100 pg/ml
- Luteal phase: 100 - 300 pg/ml
- after menopause: 10 - 60 pg/ml
Oestron is the main hormone in post menopause.
